PARCO x VISLA Magazine x Gallery STAN @SUPER DOMMUNE Talk Session & LIVE DJ Event

To celebrate the exhibition "Twisted", the first night of the first night was a talk session with five participating artists (SAMBYPEN, N5BRA, MAWZ, BAZBON, Kim Doongji) and Inji Alexia Song, a representative of Gallery STAN, were held.

Inge, who curated this exhibition, cited "Ultra Contemporary Art", which has been rapidly growing in the art market since 2020, as a keyword to interpret this exhibition in a talk session.

"Ultra Contemporary Art" is a category of art for young artists born after 1974. The explosive growth of digital art, including NFTs during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the rise of millennials collectors, have seen ultra contemporary art sales increase by more than 300% since 2019. Since Inge has been instrumental in discovering and nurturing young artists since the founding of Gallery STAN in 2017, he expressed his expectations and enthusiasm for the current excitement of ultra contemporary art that "the study of artists living in this era has finally begun."

Ultra-fast and super-copy are accelerating in NFTs, digital art, generative AI, and fashion scenes, artists of Ultra Contemporary Art are facing the challenge of "where to find Aura?" every day. On the other hand, artists born around the 1990s, including five participating artists in this exhibition, face such challenges, but do not distinguish between high-end culture and subculture, high and low, and both have the sensitivity to enjoy dig.

Naohiro Ukawa, president of DOMMUNE, sympathizes with the growing STANCE of the challenges and culture of young artists, saying, "SaMBYPEN's works are based on the flatness and digital data of manga and animations, and the aura is emerging through woodwork techniques." In the 1960s, Keiichi Tanaami connected graphic design with pop art and experimental animation, and in 2000, contemporary artist Ryu Murakami found similarities between traditional Japanese art such as Ukiyo-e and Rinpa, as well as the flat visual expression of Japanese pop culture such as manga and anime, and then compressed them into one screen, Ukawa described this exhibition as "the exhibition of pop culture via Japan from Korea since the opening of Japanese culture in Korea in 1998."

The second part is a talk session on the Korean music scene, which is attracting worldwide attention. Moderator is Jun Hirayama, editor-in-chief of NEUT. Guests include Kwon and Jangmin Choi, founders of VISLA Magazine, a web media that conveys Korean subculture, artist Lil Cherry, and Reiji Okamoto, who is familiar with Korean culture.

VISLA Magazine focuses on fashion, music, art and subculture, and focuses on the culture scene not only in Korea but also in Japan, the United States and Europe. Since its launch in 2012, it is a unique medium that has evolved into a wide variety of forms from web ZINE to paper media, radio stations, and offline spaces over the past 12 years. According to founders Kwong and Jianmin, for about a decade, South Korean subculture markets were still developing, and not many artists were making it difficult to continue their activities. However, the recent global spread of K-POP has boosted, and the South Korean underground has gradually come to light.

Reiji Okamoto said that Korean music is a great attraction not only for the world-class musicality but also for the uniqueness of products that deliver music. South Korea, a developed internet country, has been thinking more about "how to sell physical" than any other country because subscription music distribution services started 10 years earlier than Japan. As a result of various ingenuity, such as triangular CDs, giant CDs, and physical using iron that allows you to enjoy aging, physical sales are growing in South Korea than streaming, so there is a lot to learn from these trends.

Lil Cherry, an artist who is also noted by Reiji Okamoto and VISLA Magazine, draws attention from the world in an experimental style that combines K-pop and hip-hop, taking advantage of his background growing in the United States and South Korea. When asked about her favorite Japanese artist, she named Awich, an Okinawan rapper who had collaborated in the past, and said she was growing interest in the indigenous nature of Japanese hip hop. At the end of DOMMUNE, there were live performances and DJs by Japanese and South Korean artists such as Lil Cherry, and the opening party for the exhibition "Twisted" was closed in the midst of enthusiasm.
