MARNI×CARHARTT WIP COLLECTION
MARNI releases a collaboration with CARHARTT WIP. To celebrate this launch, [MARNI x CARHARTT WIP] POP UP will be held at Shibuya PARCO 1F POP-UP SPACE “The window” from January 25th (Wed) to February 5th (Sun). Rebuilding the signatures of CARHARTT WIP from a fresh perspective, bringing fresh designs to the prototype of workwear through MARNI’s specialty fields of color, print and silhouette, this collection incorporates new material combinations, full print and plenty of volume, blending authentic workwear practicality with MARNI’s light approach. The foundation cultivated by CARHARTT WIP is fluidly pushed up to an unexplored and imaginative area envisioned by the hands of MARNI and its artistry, and proposes a wardrobe that can be enjoyed even in unisex with the exquisite balance of workwear practicality and immediate wear.

I feel it at Shibuya PARCO
New encounters only here
【MARNI×CARHARTT WIP】 POP UP offers a lineup of work jackets with MARNI clover prints, work pants, work shirts, zip-up hoodies, tote bags, bucket hats, platform slips, etc. All the collaboration items have a CARHARTT WIP tag and MARNI red logo stitch. In addition, standard popular items such as kolor block jacquard tote bags will be in stock.
UTA says that he often visits Shibuya PARCO even privately. "It's fun to check out limited brands that can only be found here, and it's interesting because you can see POP UP, a project that you can't usually think of, like this MARNI CARHARTT WIP, at Shibuya PARCO. Through POP UP here, there are some brands that attract attention and become famous in the world. This time, when I contacted you about this work, a POP UP was just being held at Shibuya PARCO to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the New Year's Eve event <New Year Rock Festival> that my grandfather had been doing all his life. It was a milestone in the event that my grandfather worked hard, and I felt a deep connection with Shibuya PARCO.

Free playful wardrobe
Meet with clothes that can be worn like yourself
“CARHARTT WIP is a long-established workwear brand. I thought it was very attractive because of the unexpectedness of fashion brand MARNI collaborating with CARHARTT WIP and an unprecedented mix. The look I wore this time is realistically "I want it!" I think my favorite wardrobe. I feel playful with the MARNI clover pattern on the entire surface, and it is incorporated into the slightly mature kolor tone of yellow and black. Although it is a practical workwear using the cotton canvas fabric, which is a standard of CARHARTT WIP, it can be worn at parties because the silhouette and design are beautiful, and you can dress down and enjoy it as streetwear. It's interesting to be able to wear it in various variations depending on you," says UTA.

Towards a Big Unknown Challenge
What my grandmother Kirin Kiki wanted to tell UTA
UTA made his model debut at the 2019SS Paris Collection runway of "COMME des Garcon" and "UNDERCOVER" at the age of 20. "It was a great honor to be able to walk along the legendary Japanese brand Launway with history. I was very nervous to walk the show of designers who are famous in the world, Rei Kawakubo and Shield Takahashi, but I was very nervous, but the first step was how to turn this into a good sense of tension and proceed. Since I have lived in the world of sports all the time, my real life was only jerseys and trainers (laughs), but my father (Masahiro Motoki) and mother (Yayako Uchida) had a unique sense of fashion and sense, and my grandfather (Yuya Uchida) and grandmother (Kirin Kiki) were wild, punk and avant-garde, so I think fashion has always been around me since I was born. What encouraged me to become a model was "Darring to try new things outside of my safe zone?" My grandmother said, "It is important in life to see yourself objectively through clothes." Models can look at themselves objectively. By doing so, you can become a person who can look at yourself. It is different from acting, but since what you express depends on the mood and theme of your clothes, you may be able to create something else. In addition to just taking on challenges as a job, it should be more enjoyable to get into the world with fun — I think my grandmother told me that in that sense.”
