MARNI×CARHARTT WIP COLLECTION

A collaboration with CARHARTT WIP will be released from MARNI. To celebrate this launch, from Wednesday, January 25 to February 5 (Sunday), [MARNI × CARHARTT WIP] POP UP will be held at Shibuya PARCO 1F POP-UP SPACE “The window”. This collection, which reconstructs the signature of CARHARTT WIP from a fresh perspective and breathes fresh designs into the prototype of the workwear through MARNI's specialty fields of color, print, and silhouette, incorporates plenty of new material combinations, full prints, and plenty of volume, combining the practicality of authentic workwear with the light approach of MARNI. CARHARTT WIP offers a wardrobe that can be enjoyed in unisex with the exquisite balance of workwear practicality and immediate wear by pushing up the foundation cultivated by MARNI's hands and the unexplored imaginative area envisioned by his artistry.

I feel at Shibuya PARCO
A new encounter that can only be found here

【MARNI×CARHARTT WIP】 The POP UP lineup includes work jackets with MARNI clover prints that can be enjoyed without gender, as well as work pants, work shirts, zip-up hoodies, tote bags, bucket hats, platform slippons, etc. All the collaboration items have a tag of CARHARTT WIP and a red logo stitch of MARNI. In addition, standard popular items such as color block jacquard tote bags will be available.

Mr. UTA says that he often visits Shibuya PARCO even privately. "It's fun to check out limited brands that can only be found here, and it's interesting because you can see POP UP, a project that you can't usually think of like this MARNI CARHARTT WIP at Shibuya PARCO. Through POP UP here, some brands have gained attention and become famous in the world. This time, when I contacted you about this work, a POP UP was being held at Shibuya PARCO to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the New Year Rock Festival, a New Year's Eve event that my grandfather had been doing all his life. At the milestone of the event that my grandfather has been focusing on, I felt very much and deeply connected with Shibuya PARCO."

Free, playful wardrobe
Encounter with clothes that can be worn like oneself

"CARHARTT WIP is a long-established workwear brand. I thought it was very attractive because of the unexpectedness of fashion brand MARNI collaborating with CARHARTT WIP and the unprecedented mix feeling. The look I wore this time is realistically "I want!" I thought it was my favorite wardrobe. The MARNI clover pattern on the entire surface feels playful, and it is incorporated into a slightly adult color tone of yellow and black. Although it is a practical workwear using cotton canvas fabric, which is a standard of CARHARTT WIP, it can be worn at parties etc. because of its beautiful silhouette and design, and it can be dressed down and enjoyed as streetwear. It's interesting to be able to dress up in various variations depending on your own," says UTA.

Toward the Unknown Major Challenges
What my grandmother Kibayashi wanted to convey to UTA

At the age of 20, UTA made a model debut on the 2019 SS Paris Collection runway of "COMME des GARCON" and "UNDERCOVER". "It was a great honor to be able to walk along Laungway, a legendary Japanese brand with a history. I was very nervous when I walked the show of world-renowned designers such as Rei Kawakubo and Shield Takahashi, but the first step was how to turn this into a good sense of tension and proceed. I have lived in the world of sports all the time, so my real life was only jerseys and trainers (laughs), but my father (Masahiro Motoki) and my mother (Yayako Uchida) had a unique fashion feel and sense, and my grandfather (Yuya Uchida) and grandmother (Kirin Kiki) also felt wild, punk and avant-garde around me, so I always thought I was always in fashion since I was born. "Why don't you dare to try new things outside of your own safety zone?" He said, "It is important in my life to objectify myself through clothes." The model can see himself objectively. By doing so, you can become a person who can see you from a bird's-eye view. It's different from acting, but what you express depends on the mood and theme of the clothes, so you may be able to create something else. In addition to just taking on challenges as a job, it would be more fun to get into the world with fun—I think my grandmother conveyed that word to me with that meaning."
