Yuta Shimizu(field / Eild / Rainbow Disco Club)Interview

“field-ZODIAC TAKEOVER PARCO” We spoke with Yuta Shimizu, the Rainbow Disco Club, who planned a new project together with PARCO and was responsible for the operation of the day, how he worked on the event.

――Why don't you finish "field-ZODIAC TAKEOVER PARCO"?

At noon on the day of the event, ZODIAC Michael and others liked "HABUSH", so we had a toast many times. Also, in the daytime part, there was a lot of content that we were not very familiar with, so when I thought "it's more damage than I imagined" at the end of the day, Knock (RDC) next to me suddenly said, "This may be harder than Izu.……I said, "I wonder if I made a mistake."……I thought (laughs). However, after actually finishing it, everyone enjoyed it, so I thought it was good to do it.

――I had the impression that RDC is taking on new challenges. Why did you start working with PARCO?

In the past, during the COVID-19 whirlpool, I had a personal call on a project called "Hearth Kitchen" and had an event at ComMunE. At that time, I met the person in charge of PARCO, and from there I started communicating. I like that person's personality and atmosphere, so if there is something, I would invite you or meet you by chance in various places, but when I came to Izu to see RDC in 2023, I was talking about something I wish I could do together. Our RDC was originally a team of friends, and we were talking about a system different from a general company organization or an ecosystem, so we would like to convey that to PARCO employees, but at the end of 2023, I made a proposal that would be the prototype of the "project" and made a proposal to PARCO. He told me that I liked it, and from there I made something like a team, discussed the project and proceeded.

――I felt that it was held not only in the music, which is the strength of RDC, but also in various aspects.

We talked about not wanting to do RDC in Shibuya, but that we would like to start something new that would be a challenge for each other by sharing what we have. Parco has a lot of know-how that we don't have, so I think we can give value to us.

――Could you tell me why you invited ZODIAC from Jakarta this time?

When I submitted the project at the end of 2023, I wrote that I would like to introduce not only the prominent parts but also the whole as much as possible by inviting interesting collectives and crews from all over the world. Of course, the RDC side is mainly music, but not only that, but also people who are doing various things such as design, food, fashion, etc. gather and think that we are now there, so if we can show the whole in the same way, we will be able to show more essence and everyone's motivation will be different. Taking ZODIAC as an example, they are doing clubs and music labels in Jakarta, as well as apparel brands, graphic design, food, etc. If we go out to the RDC held overseas, the momentum will be different, so I think the people coming to Japan will have a strong impact and it will be interesting (laughs) By doing it together with PARCO, we can create a variety of outputs such as food, art, and fashion that can only be done on the music side by ourselves. I wanted to do that one tree with ZODIAC in Jakarta, which I was most shocked in recent years.

――Do you have an impressive visit to Japan with the ZODIAC crew?

I came with a larger number than I imagined, and everyone stayed in Japan for about a week after the event was over, but just because GERO's 30th birthday, about 15 people in total went to Disney Sea from morning to play. Everyone was wearing costumes and hats, and it was a pretty great group (laughs). I went with my family, but everyone was kind, so it was fun to play with my daughter.

――Nashigoren, which was opened in the daytime section, is also a GERO store.

GERO was originally a ZODIAC crew and DJ, but now I'm a resident DJ of a club called "KLYMAX" in a hotel in Bali called "Potato Head Suites & Studios", and I also have a Nashigoren specialty store called "NASGERO". "NASGERO" is shocking. Nashigoren feels a street taste than the Nashigoren I've eaten so far, it's dark, delicious, and looks closer to black rather than brown. I had you come to RDC last year, and as a person in charge of eating and drinking at RDC, I seriously think that it would be nice if I could do "NASGERO" with PARCO someday.

――What criteria did you choose the DJ lineup?

"ZODIAC" has a club in Jakarta, and Jonathan Kusuma is at the center of it, but we got a list of DJs that we wanted to call for in this project, and we selected them from among them. Most of the Japanese DJs who appeared in the daytime and nighttime clubs are playing over there. From the beginning, I knew that it would be a lineup that would satisfy each other, so I didn't have any difficulties around that.

――Why did you give the title "projected"?

Knock (RDC) proposed at the first meeting of the name meeting, "Because Shibuya was originally a field?" The plan was in line with the concept image of "new challenges and encounters" for RDC, PARCO, and customers, so it was decided to be a "field." That's what I saw at the booth of "SIDE CORE", which was exhibiting at an art event called "DEFOMAT" just before this conference, I saw that Shibuya is now concrete and I don't feel the soil, but I knew that it was a land where rivers were flowing in the fields in the past.

――Do you have anything you want to do in the field in the future?

There are so many things. As RDC celebrates its 15th anniversary and PARCO celebrates its 55th anniversary, when we thought about working together in the future, we wanted to do what we could do without our own knowledge. Not only the artists, but also the people behind the scenes can be nurtured.……I wish I could spend money, learn English, and conduct educational programs such as thinking and living. I want to do creative initiatives that take into account the environment and materials. There are still many things I want to do, and there are a lot of challenges, but I feel like I want to do the next as soon as possible. Anyway, I think it's important to keep rolling.

――It seems that it will be quoted in future manufacturing.

We believe in music and what we like, so we would be happy if we could exchange our likings and make new discoveries in the field. I hope that we will challenge ourselves and that those who come will find new fields (fields).

Yuta Shimizu (field / Eild / Rainbow Disco Club)

1983 left-handed Baby
Born and raised quickly in Saitama, New Jersey, Japan, as the eldest son of a kumade merchant, his father told me, "If you don't go to college, you will do 200,000." He moved to Tokyo as a clerk at a hill surf shop, but in six months the president fled at night. After that, while working at a restaurant, I got hooked on a club brought by my seniors and lived in the kindness of many people I met there. In his late twenties, he worked as a manager of the cafe space at UNIT Daikanyama. At the age of 30, he became independent without deciding what to do after marriage. Currently, we incorporated the name of Eild, a coined word that means just right between Wild and Mild, which was decided at that time, and mainly focuses on artist management, video music production, and event production centered on music and art. A typical "uncle who doesn't know what works" that nurtures the family.

Major activities include Eild/Etched/field/Rainbow Disco Club/kumade Shimizuya.
