Interview Haruka Shimazaki | Stage "New Hamlet-Dazai Osamu, ride Shakespeare!? ~」

Speaking of Hamlet, Shakespeare's tragedy, in which the Danish prince Hamlet seeks revenge on his uncle who took his kingship and mother from his father. Dazai Osamu's novel, which borrowed only the rough setting of this play and wrote the psychology of the characters in detail with humor and irony, is a series of the 50th anniversary of the opening of the PARCO Theater "Shin Hamlet ~ Dazai Osamu, Shakespeare! It will be staged. The casts are achieved by Kimura, Haruka Shimazaki, Ryo Kato, Kensuke Komai, Narushi Ikeda, Yuki Matsushita, and Mitsuru Hirata, all full of individuality and ability. Marie Gonohe, who won the last year's Yomiuri Theater Grand Prize Best Director Award, works on the script and direction of the performance. By the way, Haruka Shimazaki, who is the first appearance at PARCO Theater in the role of Hamlet's lover off Ilya, is the heart of Haruka Shimazaki, who is "Pururu"…?

――My uncle, who became the new king, was a humble person, and Hamlet was a crybaby.…。 This work is quite different from Shakespeare's "Hamlet", but what did you think after reading the script?

At first, I felt like "How do you read this character?" My role is also written as "Off-Ilya" and there are many difficult kanji characters. The wording is different from the conversation I usually talk about, so "Can you remember this?" But I thought the content was interesting. In the first place, Dazai Osamu wrote, "I never wrote it as a play," but it's interesting because it's made into a play (laughs).

――I heard that the lesson started in April. What is the impression of the director Marie Gonohe and practice?

Gonohe's impression is gentle and like a teacher in the library. For every role, I think deeply deeply about my emotions, and when I ask questions, I will answer them carefully. "I guess this is this kind of feeling," "I think this line is talking with this kind of feeling." I feel like it. It's fun to realize that I didn't think myself.

――Who is the most concerned about the cast now?

I often talk about Ryo-kun (Kato), who will be the sixth co-star this time, but I'm worried about everyone. Everyone, it's interesting. Even though I played a role in practice, there were a lot of "the personality" of each person. The expression of each actor when he doesn't give a line is also very good. I don't feel like I have yet to show that kind of "likeness" at all, so I want to be able to put it out. It might be better to do the image of the character written on the script as it is, but I still want to show my own color. If you add the charm of the actor to the role, I think it will be a role that only that person can do.

――I'm looking forward to the off-Ilya unique to Shimazaki. By the way, did you see Shakespeare's "Hamlet" on stage or movie?

I didn't know. However, recently, I happened to see a video of the stage where Tatsuya Fujiwara is doing hamlet. It wasn't good if I was influenced, so I thought it would be better not to watch it, but I watched it a little (laughs). After all, I stopped immediately because I wanted to stop it, but (Suzuki) I was worried about Kyo's Offia, so a little (laughs).

――This is the first appearance of the PARCO Theater. What is your impression of the theater?

Both the carpet and the chair are red and cool. Also, looking at the stage, I felt comfortable. He called me to a historic theater older than me in the commemorative year and said, "Thank you. But I wonder if it's okay. I wonder if I can do it myself, but in this space, I feel like I can play with peace of mind. If the stage was too wide, the distance from the co-star would be farther, and I thought it was a bit thin.

――You don't seem to be nervous because you were on a much larger stage and had a huge number of customers in front of you.

When the song is live…Certainly, I wasn't very nervous. It's a live performance that I don't know what would happen, but there were many seniors and I thought it would help in case of emergency. I was sleeping until about 5 minutes before the show started, and Akimoto was surprised (laughs). However, before the next stage performance, I feel nervous. When it comes to a dome, customers can only see the size of rice grains, but with the sense of distance of this theater, the expression of the customer seems to be clearly visible.

――What kind of impression do you have in the role of Off Ilya?

I was wondering if there was a weak feeling, but now I think it's not good. When I was reading the script alone, I was reading it dark or calm. But as I practiced, I remembered that Off-Ilya was originally a good luck I'm still searching for it, but don't forget it and make sure that the dark lines are not too dark. The way in which emotions are shaken may be the largest among the characters. It's really interesting to say to the queen (the mother of Hamlet) that he loves the queen, and what did Dazai write in this era? I think so.

――What kind of impression do you have on the hamlet in this work?

That's hard. I was still thinking, "What do Ilya think of Hamlet?" For me, I don't want to be very friends with a person like a hamlet. Or, I think it's a type that doesn't really have much in reality.

――There are many people who are worried about this work. Is Mr. Shimazaki a kind of problem? Or are you optimistic?

I'm really worried. I was worried about the small things, and after returning home every day, it feels like a reflection meeting alone. "I wish I didn't say that way there," or "I wish I did this more."

――How do you take it off from such a situation?

I have a dog at home, so I've been saved a lot. Also, I'm writing a diary. I'm writing a "three-year diary" by hand. When you write it, you can organize your head and it's quite refreshing.

――One page is divided into three, and it is a diary that allows you to write records of the same day on the same page for three years.

Yes. It's just the second year, and one year ago today, what I think and Takagawa is interesting. I don't write it every day, so if nothing is written, I wondered, "Is it busy last year today?" "I didn't like this. I can laugh because something like that is written, myself a year ago (laughs). At that time, I think, "I'm glad I had myself laughing now." Even though it's my diary I wrote myself, it's fun because I think it's "interesting, this person."

――It's wonderful. What is Mr. Shimazaki's most looking forward to now, including the rest of his lessons and performances?

After all, I'm worried about the customer's reaction. Maybe people who don't know "Hamlet" will come to see it, and on the other hand, some people may come as a very fan of "Hamlet".…I think each impression is different. I'd be happy if you got into Dazai fans.

――Have you ever read any Dazai's work?

I've read "Human Disqualification". I was recommended by my grandpa. I've already died, but grandpa is a person who loves books very much, and has often presented books since I was a child. I remember well that when I couldn't read the letters yet, I gave me a proper book, "The Prince of the Stars," instead of a picture book. Thanks to grandpa, I loved books when I was little, and I read only books.

――You're a nice old man.

It was a book otaku who had the first edition of a famous writer such as Dazai Osamu and Ryunosuke Akutagawa. He was also a traveler, and there was a very thick book of each country that describes various things about the country, lined up in the room. It was my grandpa who took me to the museum, and all the artistic things were learned from grandpa.

――I really wanted you to see this stage. I'm sure you're happy?

That's right. Suddenly, I'm getting motivated now. Of course, I didn't have any motivation until now (laughs), but when I think that's true, I'm happy to say, "I can't see it anymore, but I'll do my best." If my grandpa was alive, I could talk a lot, so I think now.

――Finally, please give a message to the readers.

When you hear Shakespeare or "Hamlet", people who don't usually watch the stage feel that the threshold is a bit high, but "New Hamlet" is OK. The language is interesting and the interaction is also interesting. The costumes are unique and the set is fashionable. If I was imagining that it would be a set like a castle, it felt cool. It's strange to want you to laugh and go home with "Hamlet", but I'm glad if that happens. I'm sure you will enjoy it. Please come and see it!
