Nozomi Iijima x UNDERCOVER NOISE LAB | Thoughts that change every day in search of ideals

Nomi Iijima, a ballet dancer who loves fashion from an early age and is attracting attention as a fashion icon with his fashionable clothes. This time, I visited "UNDERCOVER NOISE LAB", one of the largest in Japan, where you can enjoy the world view of UNDERCOVER. For Iijima, who started ballet at the age of six and went to the United States alone at the age of fifteen and always pursued how to reach his ideals, "fashion is the culmination of myself at that time." Iijima, who has moved his base to Japan and is active as a principal, interviewed him about his dream and his mind that changed in his thirties.

Emotional emotions and
23SS collection projecting hope

A slash like a knife. The wound is accompanied by flowers and tull frills - UNDERCOVER's 2023 SS collection, which was released in Paris for the first time in about two and a half years. The starting point of the collection was to change the basic spring and summer clothes that can be worn on a daily basis to a design like UNDERCOVER by adding a little extra effort. The details, like the cut with a knife, seem to express the inside of the wounded and teared heart of designer Shield Takahashi, who raised his thoughts for Paris for about three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. And by adding a little extra effort to add floral to the broken slash, it creates a sense of discomfort, chaos, and hope for the future, which are unique to UNDERCOVER.

A torn slash
Feminine sexuality

The look worn by Nomi Iijima is originally a MA-1 jacket that symbolizes masculine military, but the slash cutting with the collarbone so that the collarbone can be seen in a sense, and the back tied with the ribbon was boldly exposed. The back style has changed brilliantly to a dressy MA-1 that stands out feminineness. The sense of discomfort that dwells in the elegance is the unique “CHAOS & BALANCE” unique to UNDERCOVER.

"The back of MA-1 is open and very cute in mode. I wanted to wear this kind of clothes and go to see ballet and play. The skirt can also be worn in three ways: mini, long, and medium, and at first glance it looks very simple, but I am fascinated by the possibility of having a single piece of clothing."

The blouson ¥79,200, the skirt ¥59,400, the boots ¥79,200

What should be noted is UNDERCOVER
The first resort collection item

In addition to the 2023 SS collection line, the store also has a wide variety of items from the Resort Women's Collection that UNDERCOVER announced for the first time. The 2023 Resort is proposing daily wear that goes back to the origin and pursues the uniqueness of UNDERCOVER. At first glance it looks like a flower motif, but if you look closely close, it's a skull.…It is characterized by its design that adds poisonous and playfulness to romantic details. There are plenty of accessories and miscellaneous goods that are perfect for Valentine's Day gifts in the store. You should be able to meet items that are unique, mode, and realistically "want".

"For me, fashion is a self-expression, and it can be said to be the culmination of 'self' cultivated through my life."

In order to move forward, it is not necessary to step in the same place to make the ideal reality. If you put yourself in a gorgeous and harsh world, your "now self" will change in a blink of an eye.

"At that time, my favorite taste has changed, but it's my best at all times. I think that one of the things that express my own present is clothes."

Bag ¥74,800

My dream in my thirties

He started ballet at the age of six, went to the United States alone at the age of fifteen, and turned 31. What do you think now that you have been running for 25 years?

"When I was in my thirties, I didn't give up anything. When I was young, I didn't expect much from people and things, "I think it's impossible."…When I thought about it, it was a type that gave up. But these days, if you don't give up, I think you'll see something, and I'll find it interesting."

It may be because you have a big dream that you don't want to give up.

"In Japan, the desire to make ballet closer to everyday life" and the desire to contribute to it are growing steadily. The culture surrounding art, such as ballet, differs between overseas and Japan. In particular, Japan has a unique culture of promotion, and when I returned to Japan, I was embarrassed. But now I'm working hard for those who like me and come to see me."

Even though you are worried, you always dance as much as you can and have the audience enjoy it. It must be the honesty of what stands on the stage.

"In fact, many people liked ballet and wanted to see a variety of performances because they came to see them. Now that's my best support and encouragement. First of all, I learned that getting people to know the charm of ballet is the first step in fulfilling my dream of spreading the art of ballet."
